Remote Video Inspection is an alternative to on-site inspections that require prompt service, a follow up after an initial on-site inspection, or scheduling a more specific inspection time. Remote Video Inspection uses a video call on a 4G or WiFi smartphone or tablet in order to interact with the inspector.
Remote Video Inspection in 3 easy steps
- Schedule: Schedule your Remote Video Inspection
- SMS Invite: The inspector will initiate the Remote Video Inspection call to you at the time scheduled through SMS. Click on the link in the message and you will be connected through your phone browser (No app download required)

More Details
How do I schedule my Remote Inspection?
- Schedule Remote Video Inspection by going to the website provided by your inspector.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. Provide a mobile number where you can receive an SMS.
- You may be prompted to enter the permit number and the requested inspection numbers located on your permit
How do I prepare prior to the inspection?
- Prior to the inspection, ensure that the necessary tools based on the type of inspection are readily available. For example, carry a tape measure, level, GFCI tester, step ladder (for close-ups of the ceiling), etc.
Getting ready to start the inspection
- Make sure the smartphone or tablet is fully charged
- Be ready to receive an SMS with a link to join the video call at the scheduled time and respond to requests from the City inspector
- Have the required tools (tape measure, level, GFCI tester, step ladder, etc.)
- Turn off phone or tablet notifications during the video call. Notifications freeze the video call and will cause delays to the inspection or could require the inspection to be rescheduled.\
At the time of the inspection
- Begin inspection at street view looking at structure with the address showing
- Follow the directions of the inspector
- Walk inspection in clockwise direction
- Walk inspection from bottom to top (if multiple floors)
- Make note of any items that need to be corrected
How do I get my inspection results?
In most cases, the inspector will tell you in the video call if the inspection has passed.
What if my remote inspection fails?
- If an inspection fails for any reason, the inspector will update the system after the video call is completed and comments may be available for your review
- The inspector may assess if an additional fee for re-inspection is required
Getting my video inspection results
- The day after the inspection, results may be available on the inspector’s website for your review.
- In some cases, your inspector will let you know over the video call if you passed the inspection or not.
Note: Based on the size and/or complexity of the project it may not be possible to complete the inspection via Remote Video Inspection. In that case, the remote inspector will partially approve the inspection and make every effort to route a field inspector to complete the inspection the same day. If this is not possible, the inspector will schedule a field inspection for the next business day.
